Wow, up to round 5 already! Although I should note, I'm only playing 2-day rounds, so it isn't nearly as impressive progress as it sounds. But still...10 days in isn't bad! Let's jump in to visit the chief's hut.

Hello again! I had the previous round and this round all organized, cropped, and ready to post, complete with headers before I took my extended break, so it's pretty easy to toss up a few posts now. I have at least 2 rounds of pictures that are not organized, so eventually I'll get around to a) finding them, b) sorting them, and maybe one day, c) posting them as well. And maybe I'll even open the game again after that!

Anyway, here's what happened last time with Earnest:

  • After a broken leg (or some other vague ailment) left him down and out for a few rounds, airplane mechanic and erstwhile cruiseship passenger Earnest has emerged from the jungle, free of his oranutan rescuers, or possibly captors...he isn't sure.

  • Now he's on a mission to find his daughter, Emma, whom he is certain must have survived the wreck.

  • He's met a few natives, and most of them are unfriendly and/or unhelpful, but those who aren't don't know his daughter or where to find the other castaways.

  • One local suggested he try asking the mystical singing stones, which gave him a cryptic answer to Emma's location.

Welcome back! It's been a while... I haven't actually played this game since roughly around the time of the last update in...*checks*...June, wow. But I had some pictures still and felt like posting them, so here we are.

I'm not going to do a big recap on everything, but here are some general refreshers for the island:

  • A ship of singles on some sort of dating cruise crashed off the coast of an isolated island and the survivors have shaken up life for the locals by assimilating (in the case of Jessica, story mode's protagonist), stubbornly clinging to their normal lifestyles as much as possible (in the case of the rather useless castaways household), or living somewhere in between (in the case of David Bennett, alternate protagonist, and Earnest Langsford, lone castaway presumed drowned by everysim else).
  • Local culture involves a class system where the chief and shaman are at the top, and lowborn and outsiders are at the very bottom. Some changes in status are possible, usually through marriage or (less common) adoption, and (rarely) changes can be decreed by those at the top. This was seen recently by former shaman Amanaki bypassing tradition to assign an outsider as his replacement, causing some controversy among the locals.

  • In between there is plenty of relationship and baby drama, as is so common in a Sims game. ;)

And here's a quick recap on what happened last time with David Bennett:

  • David's mission is to bring civilization to the locals and money in his pocket via his new hyena training and breeding business. So far it's slow going with skeptical locals and not super fertile hyenas. But he has high hopes that things will turn around soon!

  • Current hyena population on his lot: Patupaiarehe (f), Korowai (m), and puppies Cascade (f) and Nepeta (f).

  • David is very good at beachcombing, so if this hyena gig bombs out, at least he has some skills to fall back on.

  • He also works in the Gatherer career, so between skilling for that, going to work, and training hyenas, it's been tough to squeeze a social life in there too, though he is excellent friends with Jessica and gets along okay with the other outsiders, plus a handful of natives.

Okay, now let's see how much I remember from half a year ago!
Lots of hyenas and a half-naked David under the cut... )

Welcome back! I actually had this update just about ready to publish for over a week, but then it got hot and sunny and I was more interested in outdoor adventures. Summer is here! So I probably won't post as much for a while. :)

Anyway, on to the newlyweds!
Honeymoons are easy when you live on a tropical island. )

I've started using LJ's Scrapbook for uploading pictures, now that my DW quota has run out, and I really like it! It's easy to organize (unlike DW photos) uploads them in order (unlike DW), is easy to sort and delete unwanted images (unlike DW), lets you paste bulk links directly into the post (unlike DW forcing you to manually copy them one by one), and it gives you twice as much space as DW! Basically I'm really glad I started with DW photos and upgraded rather than going the other way around. :)
(And when my Scrapbook space is all filled up I know I'll miss it.)

Uhh...this post is not endorsed by LJ Scrapbook. :D
Anyway, on with the update!

At the Tama household today, and following Winford's example, shall we fall right in?
It's a soft landing under the cut, I promise. )

Time to visit the men's hut, where there are men...and a hut. Or three huts, depending on how you look at the layout. Anyway!
Is it weird that I think this handheld game looks better than the uni original? )

Ooh, shiny! Here's another quickie update for you. :)
Lots of toddler spam under the cut. )

Welcome back to the island! I hope you saved room for dessert because there is plenty of cake to go around. I'm sure it tastes much better than it looks.

I'm diving into round 4 here with the goal of shorter updates, so to manage that, I'll post by household from now on. First up is the Chief's hut, home of the Manave family.
Count all the drama clichés under the cut! )

At last we're into the last post of round 3! Definitely next round I'll post much smaller updates. Whether or not that means they will be up more frequently is debatable, but I at least I won't take hours to get one post up. :D
You don't know how long I've wanted a night picture of those stones. )

Welcome back to the long-awaited (ha ha maybe) part 2 of round 3!

in which a lot happens )
Part 3 will be up to wind down the round eventually. Last week I was hoping to get all three parts out together as quickly as possible, but then I realized I haven't even finished playing through round 4 yet, so there's really no rush. :D

Back for more!
I took oodles of pictures this round, so I'll divide it into parts.

Welcome back to the island! Last round we met all the inhabitants (except the few I had no pictures of) and so this time we'll just pick up where we left off.

Get your tropical drink ready and enjoy! )

And we're back! This took longer than I expected to upload due to my pictures being horrendously out of order, and because I kept getting distracted by old LJ entries... >.> Anyway! It's time to meet the other half of the island.

It's kind of long but I really didn't want a part 3... )

Okay, so the somewhat tedious story mode out of the way, it's now time to get into the free play! Onward! )

(Crossposted on LJ & DW)

As with most games I play, I am several years late to the party, but I've been having fun with Castaway Stories so I thought I would share some pictures from my game.

I'll start with a quick journey through the story mode, but I won't really talk about the plot...just in case someone reading this is thinking of playing it for the first time. Sure Sim stories are highly predictable, but this one is a little more creative than most.

Away we go! )

As you can see, I'm experimenting with a new format and platform. If anyone has tips on using dreamwidth more effectively and maybe image hosting tips (because imgur has changed a lot and I can't figure out how to post images that can be viewed without clicking a link) they are most definitely welcome! For now I'm using dreamwidth's image hosting and it seems okay, but a bit limited and disorganized. Suggestions welcome, either here or on tumblr!
